Trading Shots in Syndicate

Our alliance and a German/Austrian/Swiss alliance traded blows all weekend. I won’t go into details about gains and losses, but as far as I can tell, we are on the losing end by a small margin as far as ISK measurements go. Things quieted down Sunday afternoon so I could get some ratting and exploration done.

A Show of Force

Our alliance is moving into 0.0 in a big way. The alliance leader has demanded in as nice a way as possible, that everyone have a presence in 0.0. That means a jump clone and a combat ship. Personally, I don’t think that’s too much to ask. Showing strength with lots of people in local is one of the ways one shows that they’re not weak. We’re also planning on more gate camps and roaming gangs. We seem to get along with our neighbors, or at least the ones who are blue (friendly) to us.

Urndor, my mining/industry alt is parked at the staging area waiting on a visit from our rorqual for my jump clone. With both a miner and a ratter, it won’t be long until I reach my goal of a 1 Billion ISK in the bank account.

Yes, a UPS is on my Shopping List.

The power fluctuations in my area have gotten really bad. Starting my blog server is almost a daily occurrence. The outages are usually less then a second, but it’s enough to power down my server. I must go get a UPS.

Serpentis Rats, Running the Numbers

I like using my Ishkur to rat. The problem is that it takes a couple of minutes to kill the battleship spawns in the area where I work. I can move to a bigger slower ship, but I could also try to maximize my damage potential. I’ve been working on my gunnery support skills. That helps a lot. I’m also considering dropping the salvage module for another damage mod.

One area which I didn’t look at closely was my drone damage output. I always assumed that Serpentis thermal and kinetic resistances were close enough that the thermal damage bonus would overcome the difference. I was wrong. I never actually ran the numbers until tonight. It turns out that against Serpentis battleships, hornet II’s do 5 more DPS then hobgoblins. They’re also marginally faster and have better tracking. The difference in damage goes up with the size of the drones. I chose small drones since that’s what the ishkur uses.

What’s the moral of the story? Don’t believe everything you read on the forums. Conventional wisdom doesn’t always suit every purpose. Run the numbers yourself if you have any doubt.

Why Did I Jump to Hi-sec Again?

After some good fun ratting, exploring, and participating in PvP ops, I clone jumped back to my hi-sec missioning system. I talked to the agent and read the mission report. I declined the mission. I just couldn’t do it. I’m now plotting a way to get one of my Dominixes (or is it Domini) down to 0.0. I would also like to get my mining alt down to the area with a hulk. I can’t see staying in hi-sec for any length of time when 0.0 is so much fun.

Serpentis Ratting Revisited

In case you’re curious, a shield tanked Ishkur is more then sufficient to take down multiple 1.4M ISK bounty rats in 0.0. According to EFT, I output about 260 DPS. It takes me a bit less then three minutes to take down a Serpentis Admiral. And here is the picture to prove it.

Super Secret Operations

Our alliance leaders have asked as many members as possible to participate in a PvP operation. In the interests of security, I won’t discuss the actual operation, but I think the preparation is interesting and won’t give away too much info.

What to do in Syndicate

My original plan was to place a few ships and a jump clone down in Syndicate region and spend a day or two a week doing PvP in 0.0 and then the rest of the time in empire running level 4 missions.

It turns out that staying in 0.0 is more fun for me. Exploration produces much better and more dangerous sites. You can actually make a living ratting the asteroid belts. Speaking of asteroid belts, I’ve never seen such huge asteroids. Right now, it’s even fun to have to pay attention to local. Traveling back and forth from empire to 0.0 is exciting. There is always the chance to get caught in a bubble and die a horrible death.

I thought I would have to earn my money in empire space so that I could live in 0.0. It turns out that empire will probably be a necessary evil where I have to do to sell the goods I find in 0.0.

I use AWStats to give me statistics about what kind of readers I have. Amazingly, I do have readers and some of them are even regular readers. Here are some of the useless stats:

The Second Great Exodus to 0.0

Today, I spent some time getting a covert ops ship (a helios) down to our new 0.0 home in Syndicate region. That was all I had planned for the day, but I found an ishkur for a reasonable price in system. I bought it and fitted it for ratting serpentis. Here is the load out:
