Some Starter Electronics Projects

I’ve been having a lot of fun putting together my electronics lab and building some projects. I’m re-learning how to read schematics, and how to troubleshoot circuits. Even though I spent my time in the Marine Corps in a bit of a drunken haze, I’m recalling a lot of the basics quickly. Turn the page to see some of my most recent projects.

One of the first “significant” projects I built was a three stage ring oscillator. My first attempt fried three NPN signal transistors… Oops. My second go was a successful three stage ring oscillator based on some power MOSFETs. The movie didn’t come out well, so I later built a nine stage one from NPN transistors. Below is a three stage schematic:

I’ve also been working on a 3D LED cube. It’s complete, but I have to write a nice program that does something more then blink the levels. Below is a short movie showing off the base electronics for the cube. It’s four 4 bit shift registers in series:
