I never tried installing from the CD. That CD is pretty out of date by now anyway. I suggest downloading the latest install from eve-online.com. The patch process moving forward from the CD version to the current version will probably take just as long.

I don't suppose you know how to get the EVE install CD working do you? I tried using wine to open the eve_premium_setup_74306.exe but it creates the error "Access Denied" even though I'm running of the main administrator. Perhaps a locked disc?
Thanks!

Thanks much for the help dude!

Here'es a bit of an update I guess. The good news: Wine 1.1.25 works without the need for patch/compile!

Firstly, my graphics:
I have an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, so I had to do this on Ubuntu 8.10 seeing as the ATI drivers don't support the X server that comes with Ubunty 9.04.

Wine: I tried wine 1.1.25 and it worked without the need for the patch (guess the patch is already applied in 1.1.25).

Here's what I did:
1) Download and install the ATI drivers from ATI/AMD
2) Install Wine 1.1.25 from the Synaptic package manager.
3) Install EVE: Simply run the executable windows installer and Wine will pick it up. Do the same for any offline patches that you may have.
4) To solve the regular eve crashes in wine, EVE has to run in its own virtual desktop. Do the following:
4.1) Applications -> Wine -> Configure Wine
4.2) under the Applications tab, click "Add Application" button
4.3) Browse to and choose the EVE.exe
4.4) Make sure that eve.exe is selected under the Applications tab and switch to the Graphics tab
4.5) Check "Emulate Virtual Desktop" and enter your desired resolution.
4.6) Uncheck the "Allow the widow manager to decorate the windows"

Voila!
Happy pew-pew! :)

I think I've seen that problem before. I have to place the file on one of the drives that wine recognizes. My c: drive is ~/.wine/drive_c/. I usually place the patch files in ~/.wine/drive_c/crap and then cd to the crap directory and run: "wine WHATEVER.exe". You could also run the patch file in the crap directory with "wine 'c:\crap\WHATEVER.exe'".
